The best time tracking software for an Indian team depends on three things: whether you need screenshots and activity data, whether you bill clients from tracked hours, and how much you want to pay per person per year. For small and mid-sized Indian teams that want tracking, timesheets and a project board priced in rupees per year, Happy Tracker is the lowest-cost option in this comparison. If you need project budgets and profitability reports today, Clockify Pro or Harvest do that and Happy Tracker does not yet. If you want no monitoring at all, Toggl or Harvest are built that way.
We make Happy Tracker, so read this with that in mind. We have tried to be fair: every competitor price below was checked on the vendor’s own pricing page on 11 September 2026, anything we could not confirm is marked as such, and we have said plainly where other tools do something we do not.
How we compared
- Prices are as shown on each official pricing page on 11 Sep 2026. Prices change — check before you buy.
- Most tools price in US dollars per user per month. We have not converted dollars to rupees, because the rate changes and a stale conversion is worse than none.
- Features are listed by the plan they first appear on. A feature that exists only on an expensive tier is noted as such.
What one user costs per year, in rupees

Only two competitors here show prices in rupees, and both charge per user per month. Zoho Projects Premium is ₹280 per user per month billed yearly — ₹3,360 per user per year. DeskTime Pro is ₹366.67 per user per month billed yearly — ₹4,400 per user per year. Happy Tracker is ₹499, ₹999 or ₹1,499 per user per year, depending on the plan.
For a team of 20 on a mid-tier plan, that difference is the whole case for some buyers and irrelevant for others. If your team is funded in dollars it matters less. If you pay in rupees from a services margin, it matters a lot.
Feature comparison

Two things stand out. First, tools split features across tiers far more than their headline price suggests — screenshots are Pro-only on Clockify and capped by plan on Hubstaff, and approvals need Time Doctor Standard, Toggl Premium or Harvest Enterprise. Second, “free for five users” is not rare: Clockify and Zoho Projects offer the same, so Happy Tracker’s free plan is not unique on that alone.
The tools, one by one
Happy Tracker
Time tracking, timesheets, a sprint board, activity and screenshots, leave, and invoicing from billable hours in one system, with native desktop apps for Mac, Windows and Ubuntu.
- Price: free for up to 5 users with no time limit; Starter ₹499, Pro ₹999, Business ₹1,499 per user per year. No auto-renewal, and any payment is refundable within seven days.
- Good for: Indian service teams who want tracking, timesheets and task planning together, priced in rupees.
- Screenshots on every plan, with frequency set by the company and blur available from Starter.
- Honest limits: invoicing starts on Pro, and there are no project budget or profitability reports yet. You get hours per project, person and task, billable versus non-billable, and estimate versus actual — the cost and margin calculation is up to you.

Clockify
The most widely used free time tracker. Free for up to 5 users; paid plans run from $3.99 per seat per month billed yearly (Basic) to $11.99 (Enterprise). Screenshots and activity are Pro and above, invoicing Standard and above, budgets and profitability Pro and above. Desktop apps for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Choose it if you want a mature tool with profitability reporting and are happy paying in dollars per month.
Hubstaff
A monitoring-focused tracker. Starter $4.99, Grow $7.50, Team $10 and Enterprise $25 per seat per month, billed annually. A free plan exists for one person. Screenshots are limited per user per month on lower plans and unlimited on Team; invoicing from Starter, budgets from Grow, approvals from Team. Apps for Mac, Windows and Linux.
Choose it if you manage remote teams, want deep activity data, and the dollar price is acceptable.
Time Doctor
Monitoring-heavy, aimed at remote and outsourced teams. Basic $6.67, Standard $11.67 and Premium $16.70 per user per month billed annually. No free plan; a 14-day trial. Screenshots on all plans, approvals from Standard. Invoicing and budgets are not listed on its plan comparison.
Toggl
Deliberately not a monitoring tool — Toggl states that it does not take screenshots. Starter $9 and Premium $16 per user per month billed yearly, plus a free plan for a limited number of users. Profitability on Premium. Toggl is now sold as a single product, with Toggl Track and Toggl Plan kept for existing users.
Choose it if your team would refuse screenshots and you want simple, well-regarded time tracking.
Harvest
Time tracking built around invoicing. Teams $9 per seat per month billed yearly, Enterprise $14. Free for one seat and two projects. Invoicing on every plan; profitability reports on Enterprise. No screenshots, and no Linux app listed.
Choose it if billing clients accurately is the main job and your team works on Mac or Windows.
DeskTime
One of the two tools here with rupee pricing: Pro ₹366.67 and Premium ₹513.33 per user per month billed yearly. No free plan; a 14-day trial. Screenshots on Premium. Apps for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Zoho Projects
A project management tool with timesheets, rather than a time tracker first. Free for 5 users and 3 projects; Premium ₹280, Enterprise ₹630 and Ultimate ₹980 per user per month billed yearly. Project budgets from Premium; invoicing through Zoho Books or Zoho Invoice. No screenshots.
Choose it if you already use Zoho and want projects and timesheets in the same account.
EmpMonitor
Pure employee monitoring, with screenshots, keystroke logging and a stealth mode. Priced in dollars from $4.66 per user per month for small teams, with no free plan. We include it for completeness; if your aim is project delivery rather than surveillance, the tools above are a better fit.
Costs that are not in the headline price
- Monthly versus yearly billing. Most prices above are the yearly rate. Paying monthly costs more — Clockify Basic is $3.99 billed yearly but $4.99 billed monthly.
- Features on higher plans. The cheapest plan often leaves out screenshots, approvals or invoicing. Price the plan that has what you actually need.
- Add-ons. Some tools sell timesheets, budgets or AI features separately — Asana’s Timesheets & Budgets is an add-on, and ClickUp sells AI add-ons on top of its plans.
- Seat minimums. Some vendors show prices for a fixed number of seats or mention a minimum. Check it before assuming a small team pays the per-seat price.
- Foreign-currency payments. Paying a dollar invoice with an Indian card or bank transfer can add bank charges and exchange-rate spread on top of the list price.
Tools we left out, and why
- Jibble has a free plan with unlimited users, but its paid prices were not shown publicly when we checked, so we could not compare it fairly on price.
- ClickUp, monday.com and Asana are project management tools first, with time tracking on higher plans. We compare them in our guide to project management software for agencies.
- Productive is strong on agency profitability, but its pricing page showed conflicting figures, so we have not quoted it.
What to test during a free trial
- Install the desktop app on every operating system your team uses, including any Linux machines.
- Track one real working day, not a demo, and check the timesheet it produces the next morning.
- Look at what an employee sees about themselves. If people cannot see their own data, expect pushback.
- Approve one week and try to edit it afterwards. An approval that does not lock anything is not worth much.
- Leave a session running overnight and see how the tool handles a forgotten clock-out.
- Export a report to CSV and check it opens cleanly in Excel or Google Sheets.
How to choose
- Decide how much monitoring you want. None: Toggl or Harvest. Some, with limits you control: Happy Tracker or Clockify. Deep activity data: Hubstaff or Time Doctor.
- Decide whether you bill from tracked hours. If yes, check which plan includes invoicing — it is rarely the cheapest one.
- Decide whether you need budgets and profitability reports built in. Clockify Pro, Harvest, Hubstaff Grow and Zoho Projects have them today.
- Check your platforms. If anyone works on Linux, rule out tools without a Linux app.
- Price the whole year for your real team size, on the plan that has the features you need, not the headline plan.

Frequently asked questions
Is there free time tracking software for small teams in India?
Yes. Happy Tracker, Clockify and Zoho Projects are free for up to five users. Hubstaff and Harvest have single-user free plans. Check the limits, because free plans often restrict projects, history or screenshots.
Which time tracker is cheapest for an Indian team?
Among tools that show rupee prices, Happy Tracker costs ₹499 to ₹1,499 per user per year, against ₹3,360 per year for Zoho Projects Premium and ₹4,400 per year for DeskTime Pro. Tools priced in dollars need converting at the current rate.
Is screenshot monitoring legal in India?
Many Indian companies use employee monitoring, but you should tell employees what is recorded and why, and handle the data carefully under India’s data protection law. Choose a tool that lets the company control frequency, blur and retention, and that shows employees their own data.

Try it on one project
The fastest way to choose is to run two tools on the same small project for a week. Happy Tracker is free for up to five users with no card and no time limit, so it costs nothing to include in that test. Start free at happytracker.happycoders.in.
